Current projects on Dr. Thompson’s agenda include:
- Bound Together
Adventure and/or wilderness experience being designed to strengthen relationships among committed couples.
- Home Improvement Seminars (HIS)
An introductory relationships education seminar being developed with clips from television comedies as an central presentation feature on the premise that a significant number of spouses will be more likely to attend and participate in a seminar that is legitimately and empirically promoted as entertaining.
- Promises We Have Kept
A continuation of the first data collection and analysis that yielded an understanding of the development of Caucasian low-income parents’ self-reported healthy marriages, this time extended to African American and Hispanic low-income parents
- The Elevate Democracy Movement
In the early stages of organization, this group proposes (a) to increase the level of civil debate among political candidates with an eye, especially, toward improvement of presidential primary/caucus campaigns in 2012 over that of 2008, and moreover (b) to persuade state parties to conduct their primaries and caucuses in accordance with Instant Run-off Voting principles in order to ascertain candidates that are most desirable by the parties’ constitutencies.
- Hometown Marriage Initiative Kits
Building from work already performed by Mary Ortwein, MS, LMFT, this is an effort to disseminate tools to help “small town” or rural county volunteer-intensive healthy marriage initiatives thrive.
